Cough Cough

Today was a really good day.  It started off a little rough, but it came through nicely in the end.

I had definite plans to hit the gym at 8am.  My workout buddy couldn’t make it today or tomorrow because of appointments, but I’m a big girl.  I could go alone.

Buuuuut, I didn’t.  Fail.  We went to bed later than we should have, and then my sleep was interrupted with 90 minutes of coughing.  I thought this cold was pretty much gone, but that dry cough is just hanging on.  Jerk.

I don’t operate well on little sleep, and I just didn’t see a reason to be an asshole all day long because I just HAD to go to the gym.  My goal is to get in 3-4 times per week and I still have plenty of time to fulfill that.  So although I’m kind of bummed with myself, life goes on.  And seriously, we rocked out 5 miles again last night on our walk.  I can’t be amazing every second of every day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So I’m hoping for a good night tonight.  I will remember to take my cold medicine!  Plus, I passed the love along to poor J, so now he’s feeling all puny.  Neither of us handles being sick well.  We are so spoiled.  I wonder if I can still talk him into a short walk…

Anyway, so the day started out a little rough with the dumb cough and the missed gym plans.  But I got a hair up my butt and decided to straighten my hair.  And I even put on some nice (read: not workout) clothes and we went to the kids’ last golf lesson.  And it was fun watching them practice on the driving range.  We’re not sure if we’re going to continue on for another month because the lessons are expensive (not badly priced, just a lot for our budget).  But if nothing else, I’m hoping they got some of the basics down.  I’ve never actually golfed, so that could be a fun family activity.  But I’d like the kids to have a few individual golfing dates with J first.  The idea of three kids and balls flying everywhere?  Not really my idea of a great time.  We’ll see.

After the lesson, some of the other moms were heading over to the beach.  Of course I was totally ill-prepared, but I figured we could go and check it out.  It was a beach that we’d been hearing about since moving here, so I was excited to see it.  And not only was the spot secluded and nice, but we saw a ton of sea turtles!  Audra was able to borrow some shorts from our friends and wear her swim vest as a top.  The boys had gym shorts, so Austin was able to wear those.  Aidan wasn’t interested in swimming.

I wrote a whole post about it on The Wandering Five, so I won’t post a billion pictures here.  Just one. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We were only there for two hours, but the turtles hung out with us for a solid hour of that.  And even when we weren’t paying attention to them, they were still there.  It was such a cool experience.  Sometimes I think that we’ll get tired of seeing the wildlife, but I really don’t think we will.  It just feels magical.  And it’s the most fun when we have such a great adventure without meaning to.  I just need to make sure I’m more prepared next time.  I was walking around in the water in my clothes.  And I didn’t have my underwater camera!  I will definitely be back.  Very soon.

I’m so thankful for our time here.  Wherever we go next – I’m hopeful that I can find adventures that get my juices flowing like these do.  Now that I know what this feeling is, I will definitely be looking for it for the rest of my life!

And as a sidenote, although we weren’t prepared for the beach, I did bring after-golf snacks.  And J came up to meet us with homemade sandwiches in his bike’s saddle bags.  We are rocking this no eating out thing!  It may have only been a few days, but we gotta start somewhere. :)
