HNiT Mindful Living Challenge

I have learned a lot in this journey to healthy living, but the one single factor that has helped me maintain my weight loss is learning to eat and move mindfully. This means that even when I’m not doing everything “right”, I’m still paying attention. That allows me to indulge and be more laid back without completely going off the rails. Before I discovered this little “secret”, I was yo-yoing with the best of them.

Living mindfully doesn’t come naturally to me. I’m an all or nothing kind of girl and unfortunately, I’ve spent a whole lot of time at the “nothing” end of the spectrum. That’s made it incredibly difficult to live a consistently healthy lifestyle. But once I realized that I don’t have to fight against myself – I just have to work with what I’ve got – I’m finally in a place where I can have my cake and eat it too. That means I can have my ebbs and flows, but I can’t ever allow myself to be in denial about what I’m doing. Accountability is KEY.

Because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who struggles to live mindfully, I’ve created this challenge. It’s a way to support each other and stay accountable to our goals without feeling like we have to workout 3 hours a day or starve ourselves with a 800 calories/day diet. This isn’t about any of that. This is about dipping our toe into living healthily and seeing how good it feels to simply be in control.

Mindful-Living-4

The challenge will last during the month of August, and we’ll keep it going if you all find it beneficial! The challenge will take place inside of a Facebook group (simply request to join), but if you aren’t on FB, feel free to participate on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #HNiTMindfulLiving. I’ll be searching that hashtag often and commenting on your posts!

Here are the guidelines/goals:

Make healthy swaps where you can. Craving some ice cream? Try to freeze some banana slices & blend them up for a sweet frozen treat!
Move 30+ minutes each day. Walking, running, swimming, Zumba class, anything!
Participate in a strength training routine 3 times per week. Even 10 minutes is a great start!
Log your food & drinks. At a minimum, track the servings you consume. But it’s even more helpful to log your calories as well so you can aim to eat no more than you burn.
Eat with intention. If you have a snack of potato chips, take ONE serving and return the bag to the pantry. If you’re at a summer barbecue, make a plate and eat it. Don’t graze while you chat with your friends.
Drink water. I would be a gigantic hypocrite if I said you should be drinking half your body weight in water each day. I’ve yet to achieve that level of hydration yet. But we will aim to increase our water intake each week of the challenge.

Throughout the month, I’ll be posting tips for all of the above inside of the Facebook group. You won’t be in this alone no matter where you’re at in your journey. Share this information with friends – the more participation the better!

The Facebook group is open now – you’re welcome to go ahead and request to join. On August 1st, I’ll begin posting and we’ll officially start the challenge! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave a comment or send me a message.
